Determining Moisture in Plastics by Relative Humidity Sensor
The Computrac Vapor Pro measures water vapor by means of a relative humidity sensor. The sample is placed in a glass vial and placed into an oven that heats the sample. Dry nitrogen gas sweeps the evolved water vapor out of the vial and past a relative humidity sensor.
The sensor is specific to water vapor so other evolved volatiles won’t register as water content (this is different than a gravimetric test). This instrument is comparable to a Karl Fischer type moisture analysis.
The Instrument is great for accurately determining the %moisture of polymer samples. It can also be used as a means to verify the accuracy of gravimetric moisture analyzers which are more commonly used in production environments.
